Robertson County employers will no longer be forced to administer weekly COVID tests to unvaccinated workers. This, after a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court Thursday that struck down the Biden Administration’s push to increase vaccination rates among U.S. workers. The conservative majority of the High Court ruled the White House was overstepping its bounds with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s vaccine-or-test measure for companies with 100 or more employees.
Tennessee is making significant waves in terms of providing education and other opportunities for aspiring teachers in the state. The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System is teaming up with Austin Peay State University to form the country’s first registered apprenticeship program for teachers. The Teacher Occupation Apprenticeship program will further efforts across the state and across the U.S., extending the teacher pipeline. The move comes at a time when teacher shortages have reached crisis levels across the country.
Middle Tennessee is bracing for significant snow this weekend. Forecasters are calling for “large snow totals” across several communities, the heaviest of which is likely coming late Saturday into Sunday morning. Four to eight inches of accumulation could be possible in some areas. TDOT is planning ahead, pre-treating area roadways today and early Saturday.
A blackmail scam making the rounds. Authorities say internet scammers are targeting men specifically. They say that the fraudsters are soliciting nude photos from men through fake social media accounts and then saying they’ll release those photos if they aren’t paid. Metro Police say one way to avoid falling victim to this type of scam is to not engage in any conversation online with anyone you don’t recognize and to not send any photos of yourself via the internet.
Amateur astronomers in the Nashville area will have an opportunity to view a near-earth asteroid over a mile-wide after sunset Tuesday. The asteroid is roughly two-and-a-half times the size of the Empire State Building in New York City and is considered by NASA to be potentially hazardous. The space rock is expected to fly past the Earth at a distance of one-point-two-million miles, which is closer than recent asteroid fly-bys in May 2019 and December 2021.
