The long-awaited second phase of work on Interstate 65 between Nashville and the Kentucky state line is set to begin this year.  Improvements for Interstate 65, from Nashville to the Kentucky state line, include widening for approximately 25.8 miles in Davidson, Robertson, and Sumner Counties.  The planned widening will address congestion, improve safety and traffic operations, and accommodate current and future traffic demands.’

Gas prices are falling a bit.  GasBuddy’s daily survey reported the average price of gas per gallon was two-dollars-and-85 cents as of yesterday.  The current state average for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.85. Last week it was $2.87 and last month it was $2.88. The least expensive price we could find in Springfield was $2.79

It is National Lightning Safety Awareness Week and officials warn that no place outside is safe when thunderstorms are in the area.  Lightning deaths hit a 12-year high in Tennessee in 2018 when three people were killed.  That was more than the prior ten years combined.  Officials say it’s simple to remember when the thunder roars go indoors.  More information is available at Lightning Safety Council-dot-org.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene will speak at a “Trump Day Dinner.”  The Rep from Georgia is expected to speak at the Republican fundraiser in nearby Wilson County on October 7th.  The event will be held at the Wilson County Expo Center.  Greene is expected to host a private reception with tickets running from 75-to-one-thousand dollars.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is reporting there’s evidence of alligators and cougars expanding their territories into the state.  The report is in the TWRA Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide for the 2020-2021 season.  The TWRA says species expanding their ranges in the state are protected and can’t be killed until a hunting season is established.  The guide lists alligators, cougars, hawks, owls, songbirds, endangered species and any other species for which a season hasn’t been set as protected..
