Free Movie Fridays — a monthly event from June through September — will kick off tonight at the Robertson County Fairgrounds. The event, presented by the City of Springfield’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Springfield Walmart, will set up this year’s showings under the Century Stage, as part of the Robertson County Fair Association Family Fun Night series. Parks and Recreation director Terry Martin say tonight’s movie, “The Croods 2: A New Age” is slated to begin around 7:30. The rest of the summer screenings: July 16, “Moana;” Aug. 20, “The Trolls World Tour;” and Sept. 17, “Raya and the Last Dragon.”
In nearby Sumner County, a woman says her dog was snatched by a coyote. Madelyn Starks has posted all over social media, sharing photos of Scout, and asking people in the area to be on the lookout for him. Her post in the Facebook group, Hip Mt. Juliet, has dozens of shares and hundreds of comments.
A Clarksville man was arrested Wednesday in connection to a woman’s overdose death in 2019. Investigators say John Vandal gave the drugs to the woman just hours before she was found dead. Vandal was indicted during the June 2021 session of the Montgomery County Grand Jury on a count of second degree murder.
Students attending classes virtually will be allowed to play sports at their school this year. The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association approved virtual students for participation earlier this month. This upcoming school year the board will allow virtual schools to either field its own team or allow students to participate at the student’s designated public school. A meeting to consider whether to make the rules permanent will be held towards the end of the year.
New unemployment claims are lower but continued claims are higher statewide according to data released today by the Labor Department. New claims dropped by over 17-hundred-700 for the week ending June 12th to six-thousand-and-12. Continued claims increased by over 18-hundred to just under 51-thousand-900. That is the most continued claims filed since February 27th.
