Residents in Springfield may be getting another choice in-home internet. The Springfield Board of Mayor & Aldermen is conducting a fiber-to-the-home study. Fiber-to-the-home uses fiber optic cable to deliver broadband internet connections from a central location directly to the home. That could let more people get broadband at a lower cost.
From now until December 18th, the City of Springfield will provide a bagged autumn leaf collection service to residential customers. The city will not collect loose leaves, so in order for them to be collected, they must be placed in bags. The service will not be available at apartments, condominiums, or businesses. If an owner, landlord, or tenant hires someone to bag leaves the cost of hauling the bags away is included in the price. It takes place from the 1st to the 14th of each month for residents living in the North District of the city, and the 15th to the end of the month for those in the South District.
The Tennessee Department of Health is expected to update statewide COVID-19 numbers today. On Friday, TDH reported over eleven hundred new cases, bringing the total since the outbreak began to over one-million-280-thousand. Nearly 30 additional COVID-19-related deaths were also reported, with the total number standing at over 16-thousand-300.
A replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC will be in Middle Tennessee next week. The replica known as The Wall That Heals will be at Barfield Crescent Park in Murfreesboro from November 11th through the 14th. Organizers of the visit say the wall will be open 24 hours a day.
The Department of Corrections says agents made nearly two dozen arrests during the annual Operation Blackout campaign. During the month of October, Department of Corrections officers stop in unannounced at the homes of registered sex offenders to make sure they are not putting up Halloween decorations or planning to hand out candy. This year corrections officers made 39-hundred searches and 22 arrests.
