Another round of wintry weather has a Winter Storm Watch in effect until six tonight. Robertson County Schools (including virtual) will be closed today. Daycare will also be closed. The weather is also affecting the COVID-19 vaccination schedule. Rachel Ellis, the Director of the Robertson County Health Department, says those who were scheduled to be vaccinated today will be rescheduled to next Thursday morning from 9:00 trough 11:3o. Those scheduled for Friday will be contacted to reschedule from 9:00 am-12:00 pm on Saturday the 27th.
State offices in Middle and West Tennessee are closed today. Governor Bill Lee announced the offices are closed due to continued hazardous winter weather and travel conditions. All Tennesseans are being urged to use caution and avoid non-essential travel if possible today. It’s the third straight day of closures of offices in Middle and West Tennessee counties.
Governor Bill Lee is expanding a program he started in 2019 to help teach the nation’s history and civic values. As announced in his State of the State address earlier this month, Governor Lee said he will use federal dollars to double the number of schools participating in his Governor’s Civics Seal initiative. Lee has allocated money to support public schools in implementing what he calls “high-quality” civic education programs.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation continues to treat roads across the state due to winter storms. TDOT says it’s used about 20-thousand tons of salt and cleared more than 117-thousand miles of roadways in 26 Mid-State counties since Sunday. The National Weather Service in Nashville has issued a Winter Storm Warning through 6 o’clock this evening.
COVID-19 vaccination registration will expand soon. The Tennessee Department of Health says registration for Tennesseans 65 and older and those in Phase 1b of the state’s COVID-19 Vaccination Plan will begin on Monday, February 22nd. Phase 1b includes staff members of kindergarten through 12th grade schools and childcare facilities.
