Just weeks after Robertson County Schools announced the retirement of Assistant Director Stephanie Mason following a 32-year-long education career, the district found itself announcing her death. She reportedly died peacefully in her sleep January 29th. The cause of her death has not been released.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported three-thousand-119 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to nearly 728 thousand.  Over 75 additional COVID-19-related deaths were reported, bringing the total number of coronavirus-attributed deaths statewide to more than 96 hundred.  Some 15 hundred COVID-19 patients are hospitalized statewide. In Robertson County 7,997 cases have been confirmed since the outbreak began, 7,491 have recovered, and 90 have died from COVID-19 in Robertson County.

Governor Bill Lee is lifting restrictions on attendance at high school sports.  Governor Lee said last week he’s suspending Executive Order 74 as of today.  Lee’s executive orders had prevented cheerleaders, and students from attending indoor sports.  Lee says the guidance and rules of local education agencies and the TSSAA will remain in place.

Nurses are being honored in Nashville for their heroism during the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.  The names of 19 Tennessee nurses who died last year while caring for COVID-19 patients were read aloud at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park yesterday.  The CDC reports over 13-hundred healthcare workers nationwide have died since the outbreak began.  Yesterday’s memorial ceremony was put on by the Middle Tennessee Nurses Honor Guard.

People in Montgomery County will pay more for the county’s wheel tax starting Monday. The county’s motor vehicle wheel tax is increasing to $74. Last year, county commissioners passed a resolution to increase it by $25. The new fee must be paid to the county clerk’s office in addition to the state’s vehicle registration fees. County mayor Jim Durrett said the additional tax revenue will go towards building a new school.

The Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency will be hosting a 2-day FREE food giveaway event in Robertson County set for Wednesday, February 3rd  and Thursday, February 4th from 9 am to 3 pm at Travis Price Park. The food is available for any Robertson County resident in need.
