Officials in Greenbrier are investigating a suspicious package at the post office on Hwy 41. Investigators were first called to the scene around 7:30 PM Friday evening. Captain Todd Dorris with the Greenbrier Police Department says the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s bomb squad examined the package with various technologies including X-ray and gave the all-clear

The Tennessee Department of Health reported four-thousand-474 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to over 685-thousand-320.  Close to 40 additional COVID-19-related deaths were reported, bringing the total number of coronavirus-attributed deaths statewide to nearly 84-hundred.  Nearly 27-hundred COVID-19 patients are hospitalized statewide.

A Gallatin man has been arrested for his role in the January 6 United States Capitol insurgency. The United States Department of Justice said FBI agents received a tip that a man who appears in a social media video participating in the riot is Jack Jesse Griffith. Identified by the informant as Facebook user Juan Bibiano. A post on the Bibiano Facebook account shows Griffith in what appears to be the crypt of the U.S. Capitol, raising his closed fist into the air. In the pictures, the man is wearing two distinctive, light-colored necklaces.

Governor Bill Lee is backing special session legislation to deal with learning loss students have suffered during the coronavirus outbreak.  The Intervening to Stop Learning Loss bill would require interventions for struggling students while another bill calls for building better readers with phonics.  There is also a bill on accountability, assuring students and teachers won’t face any negative consequences associated with student assessments.  The special session is expected to start tomorrow.
