A fire broke out Monday at Chemtrade Solutions, formally General Chemical. 17th Avenue and West Hillcrest Dr. in Springfield were closed for about two hours as firefighter battled the blaze. On November 23rd fire crews were called to the same but that fire was caused by a third-party pressure washer on sight and the plant was not damaged. Fir officials say this time the fire broke out during maintenance and spread to the roof and about 10% of the plant operation was damaged.

Robertson County Mayor Billy Vogle has extended the mask mandate due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic through December 31st. The mandate does not apply to children under the age if twelve or people who have breathing problems.

Tennessee is setting new coronavirus-related records.  The seven-thousand-975 new cases reported by the state yesterday is a new daily high in Tennessee.  November was also the worst month for new cases in Tennessee with over 113-thousand-800 COVID cases reported.  Over 12-hundred COVID-related deaths were reported last month and hospitals statewide reported nearly 23-hundred active COVID patients, which is also a record.

Today’s the deadline for high school seniors to apply for the Tennessee Promise program.  The Tennessee Promise program provides two years of free tuition at any of Tennessee’s community colleges as well as a handful of four-year universities.  There are no income or GPA requirements, but you must graduate from a Tennessee high school to be eligible.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the state Capitol now that the state Christmas tree is aglow.  The 35-foot spruce was lit last night in Nashville amid falling snowflakes.  Governor Bill Lee said it was an appropriate evening to light the tree.  The tree was donated by a Franklin couple.
