Wilson County deputies determined a Snapchat threat that led to a “soft lockdown” at Mt. Juliet Middle School was not credible after discovering the threat came from across the state. Yesterday, officials said a concerned parent made an anonymous tip about “a generalized threat that was being distributed around on Snapchat.” The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, Mt. Juliet Police Department, and Wilson County Schools immediately investigated the threat, sparking a message from the administration to Mt. Juliet Middle families about actions being taken as kids started to arrive at school.

Donelson residents are fed up with squatters who reside in an abandoned school building. The now-empty Hickman Elementary School was sold years ago, and now community members say it’s a refuge for the homeless. The building now sits graffiti-covered and boarded up. There are broken windows and old mattresses lying around where children used to learn. Where locals used to watch these students go to class every day, they now see individuals coming and going frequently, living illegally in the building. According to Metro codes, a new case will be put in their system and an inspector will perform another inspection.

A study from Forbes found Tennessee has the most adult vapers in the country, but a cloud of concern has also been cast over the number of youth vapers in the state. In the last legislative session, lawmakers passed a bill requesting that the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR) conduct a study on the effects of vaping on those 21 and under. In the study, TACIR will address the health outcomes of vaping in those under 21, how underaged sales are enforced, the best ways to address vaping on school grounds, and access to cessation products and services, among other issues. TACIR has until Jan. 2025 to complete the study and present it to legislators.
