At least two people in Cheatham County are believed to have died due to heat exhaustion in two days. A student at Sycamore High School was one of the reported deaths. According to the school, the student – who has not been identified – was a cross-country runner. Meanwhile, a farmer working in a tobacco farm was the other reported death. Cheatham County first responders are awaiting the autopsy reports in both cases.

Reported rape cases are on the rise in Clarksville, with a nearly 37% increase compared to this time last year. Clarksville Police say that between Jan. 1 and July 23 this year, the city had seen 67 total rapes. That’s a total of 18 more rape cases than the same time in 2023. Numbers from Clarksville’s recently formed Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) show that there were 99 more sexual assaults in 2023 compared to 2022.

Sumner County EMA is searching for the owner of a missing kayak Wednesday morning after it was found in the Cumberland River across from the Cairo Boat Ramp in Gallatin, according to a recent Facebook post. The kayak was found loaded with numerous items including “Fishing gear, trolling motor, batteries, and personal items” but no ID was found to help identify the owner. Sumner EMA and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) have conducted searches using sonar and visual searches in the area along the shoreline. Updates regarding evidence findings have yet to be released.

A missing Middle Tennessee man was found dead in his vehicle by road crews Tuesday evening. Metro Nashville Police say workers with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) were picking up trash along Interstate 40 West near Central Pike when they came across the scene. 62-year-old Jeffrey Weir of Lebanon, had reportedly been driving west on I-40 when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed travel lanes, hit a guardrail, and continued down an embankment. Police say Weir had been reported missing by his family on Tuesday. They hadn’t seen him since Saturday. Investigators say there were no signs of impairment at the scene.
