A Robertson County woman was found guilty of multiple charges, including first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. The charges stem from a 2023 homicide involving a 5-year-old Cheatham County boy. On July 23, 2023, Turner Simpkins was found dead in his Chapmansboro home. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the incident. The TBI called a homicide a Cheatham County grand jury indicted a homicide, and 27-year-old Shannon Leigh Elliott on March 4 in connection with his death. Elliott was the girlfriend of Simpkins’ father. The judge said Elliott will serve at least 51 years before she is eligible for parole.

One person died after falling out of a boat at Percy Priest Lake on Wednesday afternoon. Crews with the Nashville Fire Department were called to a water rescue at 4060 Anderson Road just after 4 p.m. The caller told 911 they got the person out of the water and into the boat, however, the person was not breathing normally. Crews located the person on the beach area of the Anderson Road Day Use area and performed CPR before taking the victim to the hospital.
A local Midstate park will see new changes after the state approves $65,000 in funding. State Rep. Sabi Kumar announced Wednesday the grant award will go towards renovations at White House Municipal Park. Changes include a 20-spot parking lot for the dog park, renovation of the concession stand at the baseball/softball quad, and adding a shade structure with benches for the new tennis courts. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation will manage the grants through the Local Parks and Recreation Fund.
