Some Mt. Juliet city leaders want to take an official stance for God. Commissioners are considering supporting a state resolution making July the official month of fasting and prayer in Tennessee. The city’s proposal would recognize God as the “Creator and King of all Glory.” The resolution is not a law, but a declaration. According to the document, it was inspired by a similar declaration of prayer by John Adams in 1799. A religious history professor at Middle Tennessee State University, Andrew Polk, explained that this declaration walks a fine line between church and state.

A woman was arrested over the weekend after being linked to multiple storage unit thefts at a facility in Goodlettsville dating back to March. Investigators say a man visited his storage unit at 719 Rivergate Parkway on May 9 and discovered someone had changed the lock to the unit. Once he gained entry, he found his property was missing. The man told officers that he had furniture wrapped in green plastic, clothing, glassware, and books stored in the unit and their total worth was more than $475,000. Security footage seems to show two people, Desiree Jernigan and Joshua Brewington, allegedly stealing property from units as far back as March 15. A review of evidence pictures from a unit registered to 46-year-old Sheila Layne showed the furniture wrapped in green plastic and clothing.
