A Springfield woman faces multiple charges after an investigation into the death of a Chapmansboro child. 5-year-old Turner Simpkins was found dead at his Poplar Ridge Road home in Chapmansboro on July 23rd last year. The TBI determined Turner died as a result of chronic blunt force injuries and malnourishment, making the manner of death homicide. The investigation also revealed that Shannon Leigh Elliott, who was dating the victim’s father, was responsible for Turner’s injuries. She’s been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder, and three counts of aggravated child abuse/neglect/endangerment. She was arrested and booked into the Cheatham County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond.

The Montgomery County Commission was presented with a safety plan that would work to eliminate deadly and serious injury crashes on county roads by 2045, a plan the Montgomery County Highway Department has been working on for roughly a year now. They’re asking the county commission to approve the plan, making it an official county document so the department can apply for federal dollars under the Safer Streets for All program, or SS4. The department has already applied local dollars to multiple projects. Projects underway or in the works include various school zones, improvements along River Road and Highway 12, widening Charles Bell Road, and updates to the Sango area.

A driver was injured this morning after a crash with a school bus in downtown Franklin near Fourth Avenue North and Bridge Street. Franklin police say the three people onboard the Franklin Special Schools District bus were not injured. The other vehicle’s driver is believed to have run a stop sign. She was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
