School districts across the state are adding bullet-resistant film to doors after new legislation was signed into law last May. Yesterday. Tennessee educators got an up-close look at the technology designed to help save students’ lives. The film costs roughly $50 per square foot. So far, Montgomery, Sumner, and Williamson County Schools confirmed they use bullet-resistant film on school doors. Metro Nashville Public Schools is also working to install the film. Rutherford County Schools say they keep their safety measures private for security reasons.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is commending two deputies for exceptional police work after they recovered a stolen piece of construction equipment and arrested a wanted ex-con last Thursday. The deputies were in Summertown when they noticed a pickup truck hauling construction equipment and a skid steer. One of the deputies grew suspicious since he saw the truck and trailer a short time ago on the side of the road, without any occupant or skid steer on board. 51-year-old Kenneth Ray Workman, an ex-con, was reportedly driving the truck. Sheriff John Myers said the deputies could have waited for a report to be filed, but they instead took the initiative and solved the case before the victim even knew his equipment had been taken.
Governor Bill Lee will deliver his sixth annual State of the State Address to lawmakers and citizens of Tennessee on Monday. His office released excerpts from the speech, will be delivered at 6 p.m. in the House Chamber of the Tennessee State Capitol. Toby Keith is dead. The country singer best known for his hits “Red Solo Cup” and “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” passed away Monday at the age of 62. The Superstar revealed that he had privately been battling stomach cancer and was receiving treatment. He began the Toby Keith Foundation in 2006, which is an organization that streamlines its efforts around no-cost housing for children with cancer.
