A Hendersonville church was forced to call off Sunday services after elders discovered extensive vandalism on Friday. Leaders of the Luna Lane Church of Christ say a deacon’s wife discovered the front door open Friday, Feb. 2 around 1 p.m. They believe the vandalism took place sometime that morning or the day before. Church elders said nearly everything that wasn’t bolted down was flipped over, their pews were covered with fire extinguishing powder, and TVs were ripped off the walls and smashed. Church leaders said although they did feel anger when learning about the vandalism, their faith is one of forgiveness and ultimately invited the suspect(s) to return to their congregation.

A deadly crash involving a car and a group of bicyclists is under investigation in Murfreesboro. Police say the “serious” crash took place at the corner of Joe Knight Drive shortly after 11:45 a.m. on Saturday and the preliminary investigation shows a sedan swerved, jumped a curb, and ran into the group of bicyclists — who were stopped on a sidewalk while waiting for a traffic light to change — at the intersection of Joe Knight Drive and Medical Center Parkway. A man riding a recumbent bike — a four-wheel bike that allows someone to pedal in a seated position — was reportedly rushed to nearby Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital, where he died. His identity has yet to be released. Another recumbent bike rider who was injured is listed in stable condition. The driver of the car was also brought to the hospital before being evaluated and released, but police said charges could be pending against the driver.

First responders in Maury County spent Friday afternoon battling a blaze that spread from a barn to a home on Parsons Bend, near the Maury County Gun Club. When crews arrived at the scene, they said they found a semi-detached barn that was fully involved in flames and had already collapsed, with the fire extending into the home. Even though the home is expected to be a loss, firefighters said their hard work will allow the family to collect some important items.
