Police are investigating an overnight shooting outside of a Clarksville club that left a 23-year-old man dead. Detectives say they found evidence of shots being fired in the parking lot. The man — identified as 23-year-old Darrius Heard of Clarksville — died from his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. Officials are now looking for a suspect and a motive.

A Robertson County teacher has died from flu-related complications as cases rise in Middle Tennessee. 36-year-old Cody Capps was in Indiana with his family during Christmas break when he got sick with the flu. He later died from complications at the hospital. Flu cases are currently considered “very high” in Tennessee according to this Centers for Disease Control and Prevention map.

Dickson County authorities are investigating a weekend road rage incident that included a hail of bullets along Interstate 40. When authorities arrived at the Shell gas station at exit 172 along Highway 46 South on Saturday they said they found all of the individuals involved and took one person into custody. Investigators believe shots were fired from both of the vehicles involved in the incident, but only one person was hit, officials said. That individual is reportedly being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Natchez Trace Medical Center.

On April 8th, another total solar eclipse will occur across parts of the eastern half of the United States, running from Texas to northern New England. Closer to home, it will be running from areas cities like Little Rock, Arkansas, to Cape Girardeau and Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Carbondale, Illinois, and Evansville and Indianapolis, Indiana. If you decide to stay home in Middle Tennessee or Southern Kentucky, we will be experiencing a near-total eclipse, with 90-95% of the sun’s surface blocked by the moon.

Authorities in Putnam County have arrested a mother more than two weeks after her boyfriend was taken into custody in relation to the death of her 2-year-old son. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says Sara Mora was arrested on Friday and charged with accessory after the fact for helping her boyfriend flee from law enforcement. The child — identified as 2-year-old Ventura Mora-Francisco — was taken to Cookeville Regional Medical Center and then to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, where it was determined the child had suffered a “major traumatic brain injury.” The toddler reportedly died on Dec. 5.

A pediatric death associated with influenza has been reported in Tennessee, according to the Tennessee Department of Health. It wasn’t immediately clear where the child died and we are waiting on more info from the health department. The death was reported in the latest weekly flu statistics from the health department.

Every year, The Elephant Sanctuary collects Christmas trees to help supplement the elephants’ winter diets. Trees can be delivered to the Elephant Discovery Center at 27 East Main Street, Hohenwald, TN 38462. The last day to donate is Jan. 20, and the trees must be free of all tinsel and decorations before they are dropped off. The limit is five trees per household. The Elephant Sanctuary is the nation’s largest natural habitat refuge developed specifically for Asian and African elephants. It is located on 3,060 acres in Hohenwald, Tennessee, and it is currently home to 12 elephant residents.
