In the wake of the Covenant School shooting, Tennessee Sen. Mark Pody of Lebanon has filed a school safety bill he says “can save lives.” The bill would allow schools to purchase a “wearable emergency alert system” for teachers using funding from the school safety grants passed by the General Assembly earlier this year. Pody says each lanyard would be equipped with GPS tracking, audio and recording transmitting, and three color-coded emergency buttons which would identify a problem and alert school officials or first responders, depending on the situation.
One in women will be affected by domestic violence in their lifetime. Tennessee is one of three states with laws already on the books, requiring licensed cosmetologists and barbers to undergo domestic violence awareness training. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) introduced bipartisan legislation called the Salon Stories Act that would offer federal funds to states that require domestic violence awareness education for anyone becoming a cosmetologist or barber.
Tis the season to watch out for pooch pirates. Marlene O’Mara, of Nashville, said she thought her daughter and granddaughter’s gifts delivered by Amazon had been stolen by real-life Grinches after they were nowhere to be found, despite a picture from a driver that showed it had been delivered. That was until she looked at her security camera footage, which showed her neighbor’s dog stealing the package off her porch after dancing around the delivery driver. Luckily for O’Mara, she was able to get the package back from the dog’s owner. The gifts were not damaged,
More than 2.5 million Honda and Acura vehicles in the U.S. are being recalled due to a fuel pump defect that can increase risks of engine failure or stalling while driving. The recall affects 2017-2020 Acura and Honda vehicles. Dealer notification was scheduled to kick off earlier this week.
