A teenager is facing charges following a Sunday morning crash in Robertson County that left one man dead and another injured. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, a 2015 Hyundai Genesis was heading south on Durrett Street in Springfield when it swerved into a yard in the 400 block to avoid a vehicle that was parked on the side of the road. Then, authorities said the Hyundai hit two pedestrians and two parked vehicles in the driveway before it came back onto the road and hit two mailboxes. THP said the 17-year-old Tennessean driving the Hyundai — whose identity has not been released — was not injured in the crash. However, the teen is facing charges for vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.
A toddler likely survived a crash involving multiple cars Wednesday morning because of their car seat. Nine cars were involved in the crash on I-24 in Pleasant View. Nobody was hurt but officials say if the car seat had been installed incorrectly or the child had been restrained incorrectly, things could have been much worse.
Wilson County continues to grapple with book bans. Currently, school policy allows anyone to challenge a book that may be in school libraries. From there, it goes to a book screening committee for a final decision. However, appeals are sent to the state where only a parent, teacher, student or staff member can challenge a book. One board member found most of the complaints being made about these books are coming from people who aren’t even connected to the school system. A Rutherford County stable owner already locked up and accused of sex crimes is now in more trouble. Jason Lancaster faces more than a dozen additional rape charges and a separate case is accused of animal cruelty. 51-year-old Jason Lancaster is accused of paying the victim $1,000 as a “down payment” to keep quiet. He allegedly warned her not to speak to anyone
