A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper was injured after a crash during the pursuit of a stolen vehicle in Cheatham County on Thursday. The crash occurred on Interstate 40 East near the Kingston Springs exit. During the pursuit, both the suspect vehicle and the trooper’s vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck several trees. The suspect was not hurt and was taken into custody. The trooper sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized.
Firefighters said Thursday’s rain will not make much difference in their effort to prevent brushfires. Hundreds of acres have burnt across Middle Tennessee this week due to the extreme drought, including a Maury County neighborhood that was filled with smoke on Thursday morning. Division of Forestry crews helped the Maury County Fire Department cut a fire line through the brush to keep flames from spreading beyond the 26 acres that were burnt before the fire could be contained. Climatologists sat Middle Tennessee needs around 7 inches of rain over the next month to get out of this dry spell. The area averages less than 4 inches of rain in November.
A Madison couple was arrested and charged Thursday for the robbery of a woman on North Dupont Avenue back in September. 34-year-old Brittany Edwards and 32-year-old James Sharp Jr. are now in custody. Police, Sharp attempted to get money from the ATM using his bank card, but cash did not dispense. As he walked around the store, the victim approached the ATM and withdrew cash. Sharp accused her of stealing his money, which she denied. harp and Edwards followed her and cut in front of her vehicle. Edwards is accused of hitting the woman with a squeegee while Sharp grabbed her purse. Both Edwards and Sharp are charged with one count of robbery. Edwards is being held in lieu of $5,000 bond. Sharp is being held in lieu of $15,000 bond.
