Tennessee’s law banning gender-affirming care for young people will stay in effect.  The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Thursday rejected a request from families and medical providers to block the ban.  The ACLU of Tennessee said the ruling comes after an earlier ruling by the Appeals Court that rejected a stay request to block enforcement of the law which took effect in July 2023.  The law bars minors from transgender therapies like hormone blockers and surgeries. It also requires youth currently receiving gender-affirming care to stop receiving the care by March 31, 2024.

For years, students at MTSU have been urging the Rutherford County Election Commission to make the campus a polling place. The goal is to help students who oftentimes have a tough time getting to the polls.  In fact, back in 2020 students went to Capitol Hill when a campus voting bill was being voted on by the Elections and Campaign Finance Subcommittee.  The bill never got out of the subcommittee and never made it to the local committee or the House floor.

The largest expansion of healthcare for veterans in our lifetime is underway, but veterans should act fast as the deadline for this special enrollment period is quickly approaching.  For the past year, enrolling in healthcare with Veterans Affairs (VA) has been made simpler than ever before, but that special enrollment period ends Saturday night at 11:59 p.m.  You can enroll online at va.gov/pact.

The Humane Society of Lincoln County is racing to find forever homes for more than a dozen dogs during its three-day Adopt-A-Thon.  The organization said, due to funding, it would no longer double as the county’s animal control at the end of the month. County leaders, in turn, reportedly told humane society officials they needed to be out of their government-owned building at that time.  Humane society officials said they will be shifting to an all-foster model to house the animals they bring in until they can find a building of their own.
