The Maury County School Board twice rejected American Classical Academy’s applications to open a school in the district, but the controversial charter school still decided to appeal the decision to the Tennessee Public Charter School Commission.  ACE is affiliated with Hillsdale College, a conservative, Christian school.  American Classical Academy has applied to start schools in other locations  like Clarksville-Montgomery and Robertson, but so far, only Rutherford County has approved it after citing the county’s growth.

Sumner County closed 785 driving under the influence (DUI) cases last year with an 89% conviction rate, partly thanks to a specialized prosecutor and coordinator funded by a grant with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO).  Sumner County first hired the DUI prosecutor, a former Hendersonville police officer, and a DUI coordinator in 2021 to focus solely on prosecuting DUI and vehicular homicide cases.  Sumner County recently received a grant from the THSO to continue the DUI prosecutor program.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee joined Middle Tennessee State University President Sidney McPhee in ushering in a new era for the university’s Aerospace Department.  State, local and university officials came together Thursday morning at Shelbyville Municipal Airport in Bedford County for a formal announcement of plans to relocate the university’s Aerospace campus from Murfreesboro Airport to Shelbyville.  With $62.2 million in combined funding, MTSU and its Aerospace Department will embark on a new era of flight training for its Flight Operations Center off U.S. Highway 231. Kraft Heinz is recalling thousands of processed cheese slices due to a choking hazard.  The recall affects about 84,000 cases of individually wrapped Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices.  The company received several customer complaints about finding plastic stuck to a cheese slice, including six complaints which said they choked or gagged due to the hazard. No serious health injuries have been reported.
