Police in Clarksville are investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon at the busy intersection of Wilma Rudolph Boulevard and Holiday Drive. Officers quickly received information on the suspect vehicle and found it abandoned on Bauling Lane. A perimeter was set up to try and contain the area and find the suspects, but investigators say they abandoned the vehicle and fled the area. Police said the victim’s condition is unknown.
Two Clarksville mothers are encouraged after a meeting with the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System about an effort to expand recess times. Morgan Garner and Rachel Bush started a petition to expand recess at elementary schools across the district. The petition now has 750 signatures. On Wednesday, they met with district administrators after a school board meeting that drew several dozen parents. Bush says current district recess times may be asking students to focus for too long.
A Middle Tennessee facility for at-risk youth has come under fire for the second time in two months following a second report released by the New Hampshire Office of the Child Advocate which chronicled alleged physical, verbal, and psychological abuse uncovered after two boys in the state’s custody were sent there. Bledsoe Youth Academy, operated by Youth Opportunity Investments, is a 30-bed residential treatment center for troubled boys ages 12 to 17 in Gallatin, according to the center’s website. The facility, previously named Volunteer Youth Academy, has been at the center of multiple reports about alleged disturbances and issues with children escaping.
Plans for the proposed Ford Ice Center in Sumner County are officially on ice. The developer says costs have ballooned beyond the budget. Sumner County Mayor John Isbell says he doesn’t know what the future of the project looks like, but if it moves forward at all, it will have to be under a brand new proposal.
