The Metro Nashville Police Department said charges are pending after a Greenbrier woman died following a wrong-way crash on Interstate 65 early Sunday morning. Police said the preliminary investigation shows that 24-year-old Madeline Rutledge was driving north on I-65 in a Hyundai Elantra when she was hit head-on by a Chevrolet Equinox, which was traveling the wrong way. The driver of the Chevrolet — a 26-year-old woman from Antioch — was critically injured and remains hospitalized. Authorities reported there was no evidence of impairment at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
A man is seriously injured after being shot at a pub in Clarksville. Clarksville police say the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the lower chest area and went by Life Flight to a Nashville hospital. The status of his current condition is not known at this time. No information has been released by police on the shooter.
Former Tennessee Gov. Don Sundquist is dead. He not only served in the U.S. Navy, but he also spent years in the printing and advertising industry in Shelbyville and Memphis before being elected to Congress. He served six terms in Congress, where he later earned the reputation as a staunch fiscal conservative. Sundquist was elected as Tennessee’s governor in 1994 and was re-elected for a second term in 1998. The former governor died following surgery and a short illness. Don Sunquist was 87.
Bob Barker, animal-rights activist and the former longtime host of the TV game show “The Price Is Right” is dead. Barker died of natural causes at his home in the Hollywood Hills. In September 1972, Barker began a job that would end up being the work he is most known for — “The Price Is Right.” His wife died in 1981 of lung cancer. He never remarried. Bob Barker was 99.
