One firearm bill cleared its first hurdle in committee. The bill, brought by Rep. Chris Todd (R—Madison County), would allow any law enforcement officer, whether on or off-duty, as well as any member of the armed forces—honorably discharged or not—and anyone with an enhanced handgun carry permit to carry on school grounds or any place used by a school where students would be present. Todd and others argued the bill would help keep schools safer. The Tennessee Department of Safety pushed back, saying it would cause more harm than good.
Robertson County Schools will dismiss two hours early for the rest of the week due to the extreme heat. There will be no trade school on those days either. Middle Tennessee is expected to see near record high temperatures for the remainder of the week.
Nolensville Little League baseball had their first loss in the 2023 World Series tournament Monday. They rebounded to secure a tight win on Tuesday. Led by Lucas McCauley’s 12 strikeouts, the kids from Nolensville kept their LLWS dreams alive, beating Henderson 2-1. An RBI single in the fourth and Stella Weaver’s theft of home after a pass ball was all Tennessee needed behind McCauley in what was an epic pitching duel. Up next for Tennessee is Califo rnia on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
