The second round of heat will return to some parts of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky this upcoming week, and we are in for several days of extreme temperatures compared to the average for August! Feels like temperatures will peak between 105° – 110°, and air temperatures could reach around 100°.   Limit time outdoors in this extreme heat.    Be sure to drink plenty of water, watch for heat exhaustion, and check on those around you. Also, air quality will likely be poor in the heat of the day because the air is stagnant.

Authorities in Mt. Juliet spent Sunday afternoon searching for a man wanted for assault. Police identified the suspect as 38-year-old Cassius Allen of Nashville.  Officers said Allen could be in the Park Glen, Tuscan Gardens, Woodland Place, Willow Creek, and Stone Hollow areas.  Then, at 2:32 p.m., police announced Allen had been taken into custody after he exited the creek behind Lawnview Point.  Officers launched the search for Allen after allegedly fled from a domestic assault at the Willow Creek Apartments. No additional information has been released about the incident.

A person speeding on Hwy 109 led Lebanon police officers on a chase that ended in someone’s backyard. On Sunday night, police said an officer clocked a car going about 113 miles per hour. The officer tried to pull that car over in a traffic stop.  While the officer was chasing the car, the suspect crashed with another vehicle turning into the Spence Creek neighborhood. The crash caused the suspect’s car to go off the roadway and plow through several backyards.  Police suspect alcohol may have been involved.

Hundreds of people gathered for the opening of a brand-new all-inclusive playground at Northfield Church in Gallatin.  The church said this is the county’s third playground designed for kids of all abilities.  It’s officially open today.
