New Gallup analysis backs up something we all know: America is growing more polarized.  Gallup looked at two dozen key issues in politics and society and how partisan support has evolved over the last 20 years.  The power of the federal government, the cause of global warming, satisfaction with public education, abortion, foreign trade, immigration,  gun laws and health care access have all seen partisan gaps widen by at least 24 percentage points.  But Both Republicans and Democrats, for example, are more likely now than they were 20 years ago to say divorce is morally acceptable. Democrats are more likely to hold that view, 88% to 69%, but the gap has only widened by a couple percentage points. Similarly shared, growing support has been seen for marijuana legalization and same-sex marriages, though the share of support from Democrats has still outpaced the growing support from Republicans.
