Robertson County Schools are taking advantage of a new state law by officially rolling out navigation system technology for bus driver.  That technology was banned under a state law passed after the deadly 2016 Chattanooga bus crash, forcing substitute bus drivers who were unfamiliar with the route to use paper route sheets to get directions.  The technology includes an app for parents, which the district has made free, to track their children while they’re on the bus. The app, called Here Comes the Bus, can also send parents alerts when the bus enters and exits certain zones.

A soldier was convicted during a military court martial at Fort Campbell nearly two years after his pregnant wife was killed.  Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Santiago was reportedly arrested on Sept. 28, 2021, one day after his wife, Meghan Santiago, was found dead.  Officials said Joseph was sentenced to life in prison, with potential for parole, plus an extra six months for harming the couple’s unborn baby.

A man pled guilty to murdering a Robertson Co. deputy.  James Conn pleaded guilty yesterday to three major counts in the murder of Deputy Savanna Puckett inside her home in January of 2022. Conn is taking the rap for first-degree premeditated murder, aggravated arson and aggravated burglary. His plea deal avoids the death penalty and sentences to life with the possibility of parole after 75 years served.

On Tuesday, the Rutherford County Emergency Communications District launched the “Text to 911” service across the entire county. The goal is for the system to be used in special situations where oral communication is impossible or dangerous.  Once the caller starts to text 911, the messages will appear in the dispatch center. The dispatcher will then be able to text back and forth with the caller to get more information without ever having to speak on the phone.
