For the third consecutive year, Kubota Tractor Corporation has named five winners in its annual Kubota Hometown Proud™ Grant Program. This year, the company announced that The Black Farms, Food and Families Project, supported by local Kubota dealer Absolute Kubota, is one of those winners.   Black farmers comprise less than 2 percent of all growers in America. Fiddler’s Grove Historic Village aims to revitalize minority interest in agriculture in Wilson County through a “seed-to-feed” project that extends beyond its locale at the Wilson County Fair-Tennessee State Fair to the larger community..

Dignitaries and local residents were at The Center last Thursday to hear from Mayor Ann Schneider and City Manager Ryan Martin as they provided the latest details and improvements of Springfield over the past year during their third annual State of the City address.  Schneider began her address by noting Springfield’s newfound emphasis on tourism, which has brought in over $175,000 to the city’s budget in 2022, collected through its hotel and motel tax.  City Manager Ryan Martin began by noting the city’s growth, with Springfield currently ranking as the 33rd largest city out of several hundred in the state.

One person was killed in a crash involving a car and a train Tuesday afternoon in Springfield near the intersection of Kinneys Road and Matthews Road.  THP said a 17-year-old boy was driving a 2015 GMC Terrain SUV on Matthews Road and tried to cross the railroad tracks when the SUV was hit by a train. The 17-year-old died while his passenger, a 15-year-old boy, was injured. No other information was released.

The Clarksville Police Department has opened a death investigation after a man was recovered from the Cumberland River late last month. The victim –identified as 32-year-old Dominick “Aquaman” Chacon – was located by individuals who were working a barge in the area. Officials reported Chacon was originally from California.  Police believe there was no foul play involved in his death.
