Two people have been arrested for allegedly posting racist fliers around Columbia.  The Columbia Police Department said on Thursday afternoon a 38-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested and charged. Investigators are now trying to determine if the two individuals acted alone or if others were involved. Last Sunday Ku Klux Klan recruiting fliers were found posted on the marquees of three African American churches.

A suspect was shot and injured during a Midstate pursuit Thursday afternoon.  The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) reports deputies with the Hickman County Sheriff’s Office   were pursuing a vehicle around 3:30 p.m. The driver reportedly stopped on a logging road in Centerville and tried to flee on foot.  The TBI says an altercation occurred and the suspect was shot by a deputy. He was taken to a hospital in Nashville and is expected to be OK.  The deputies pursuing the suspect were not hurt.

A report out this week from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says more children have been coming into the nation’s emergency rooms for cannabis-related health problems.  An unsuspecting child might find what they think is a simple snack lying around the house, but if it’s a THC-infused product the accidental exposure could make them very sick. Children who ingest high enough doses can suffer a variety of serious ailments, including altered states of consciousness, seizures, difficulty breathing, vomiting and dehydration.

Eight inmates in the Putnam County Jail experienced an overdose of fentanyl yesterday.  Sheriff Eddie Farris told says a female inmate smuggled the drug into the jail in a body cavity. Once inside she shared the pills with several other female inmates. Eight overdosed, had to be revived and rushed to the hospital.  So far four have been released.  All eight will be charged with possession, and the inmate who smuggled in the drugs will be charged with attempted second-degree murder.
