Last night Wilson County residents and the school board debated a policy that would require teachers to tell parents if a child wants to identify as a gender other than the sex they were assigned at birth. While the policy was not up for a vote but rather a discussion, public comment lasted almost an hour and a half with the security team having to intervene at one point when a speaker did not leave the lectern.

Tennessee students who make threats of mass violence against schools will be expelled for one year thanks to a new state law that establishes the act as a zero-tolerance offense in the state. The state law went into effect July 1 after passing through the state legislature this past session.  According to the Educator’s School Safety Network, school threats are a common problem in the U.S. The group reported 446 incidents of false threats against schools nationwide this past school year.

A roughly $30 million project may be stopped in its tracks. Last month Hendersonville city leaders debated for hours on how to approach Exit 8 off of Vietnam Veterans Boulevard. The concern is focused on the safety of cars near the railroad tracks, but some believe the project costs too much money and that the money should be invested somewhere else like filling th vacancies in thr fire department.

Former democratic Tennessee state lawmaker Roy Herron is dead.   Herron was initially injured on July 1st in a jet ski accident on Kentucky Lake. He was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.  In 1987, he was elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives, where he served until 1997. He would go on to be elected to the Tennessee State Senate, serving until 2013.  Roy Herron was 69.

Organizers of the Calgary Stampede an annual rodeo and festival in Alberta announced they broke a Guinness World Record by serving 17,182 pancakes in eight hours.  Guinness World Records adjudicator Brittany Dunn was on hand to observe the attempt. She ended up disqualifying 15 of the pancakes for various reasons, but that still left enough to break the previous record of 14,208.
