Last month, Robertson County was awarded a water infrastructure grant for more than $3.5 million from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.    Robertson County Mayor Billy Vogle said the grant will be collaborative with every municipality within the county.  He added that the cities each submitted a plan, which has gone to TDEC and has been approved.”

A Shelbyville man drowned near the Normandy Dam on the Fourth of July.  Police say 37-year-old Edilcer Ediberto Lopez was trying to retrieve a shoe that fell into the water. On his way back to the dock, he reportedly went under and never resurfaced.  Officials said there were no signs of drug or alcohol involvement.

Childcare costs in Tennessee outpace the cost of college tuition.  The 2023 Kids Count Data Book shows infant care costs Tennessee families $10-$11,000 per year, while in-state public tuition costs $9,900 per year. Toddler care costs around $8,000 per year.  The report says childcare issues leads to some parents quitting, changing jobs, or turning down job opportunities.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency’s (TWRA) “Operation Dry Water” led to 23 citations for boating under the influence over a three-day period. rom July 1-3, which were the official dates for the program, 23 citations were issued. Over the entire Independence Day weekend, 31 citations were handed out. The TWRA did report that there were no boating related fatalities over the holiday period.

The penalties for BUIs can include fines, jail time, or the loss of boat driving privileges.

The men in thr brown trucks nay be going away for a while.   Following marathon negotiations, the labor union representing nearly 340,000 UPS workers claims the company “walked away from the bargaining table” early this morning.   Negotiators for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters said they unanimously rejected an “unacceptable offer” that didn’t address members’ needs. The move comes a week after the union gave UPS a June 30 deadline to present a “last, best, and final offer.”
