June is now “Great Outdoors Month” in Tennessee.  Governor Bill Lee took to Twitter yesterday to proclaim the month and wrote, “Tennessee is blessed with an abundance of beauty and rich natural resources.”  He also said he is proud to “celebrate our commitment to preserving Tennessee’s outdoor heritage for future generations.”

The FBI is searching for a suspect who they say robbed two banks in Brentwood.  Police say a man dressed in a yellow safety vest, protective glasses, and a knit winter hat handed a teller a bag and demanded money at the Wilson Bank & Trust on Harpeth Drive around 1:00 p.m. yesterday.  Authorities report he then left on foot, walking toward Old Hickory Boulevard.  Investigators believe the same individual robbed a Pinnacle Bank branch on Franklin Road last month.  Anyone with information related to either incident is asked to contact the FBI office in Nashville.

Thousands are expected to gather in Bedford County this weekend to celebrate one of the south’s sweetest combinations.  The annual RC Cola-Moon Pie Festival is happening in the tiny village of Bell Buckle on Saturday.  The event includes games, clogging performances, live music, and the crowning of the RC Cola King and Moon Pie Queen.  The gathering culminates with cutting and sharing the world’s largest Moon Pie at 4:00 p.m.

One Tennessee congressman wants to send a strong message to scammers exploiting veterans.  Representative Tim Burchett has introduced legislation in the House that would add prison time to scammers of military vets.  Burchett’s bill would tack on up to ten years to a sentence for email and telemarketing fraudsters.  A 2021 survey by AARP shows veterans and active service members are about 40-percent more likely to be scammed and lose money.

 Middle Tennessee communities among the safest in the nation.  A recent study by financial tech firm SmartAsset places Brentwood, Franklin, and Hendersonville among the top 50 safest American suburbs.  The report compared data on violent crime and property crime, traffic fatalities, and deadly drug overdoses for more than three-hundred-50 suburbs surrounding the one-hundred largest cities in the U.S.  The D.C. suburb of Great Falls, Virginia landed at number one on the list.  Brentwood was placed at 16, Franklin at 21, and Hendersonville slotted in a little further down the list at number 41.
