Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti says he expects to appeal the recent federal ruling overturning the state’s ban on drag shows in public spaces or where kids could be present. U.S. District Judge Thomas Parker ruled on Friday that the law was unconstitutional and it infringed on drag performers First Amendment rights. Judge Parker called the law overbroad and unconstitutionally vague.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is investigating after a tree that held a bald eagle’s nest in Nashville was knocked down. TWRA Sergeant Kaleb Stratton says a company who was clearing land in the area of West Trinity Lane and Buena Vista Pike toppled the tree, leaving two eaglets vulnerable on the ground. Stratton says the firm involved in the incident could be facing federal penalties. TWRA is continuing to watch the eaglets. Stratton says the adult eagles have been protecting the young.
Clarksville Police investigating the shooting of a woman who crashed into a dumpster now say they are treating it as a homicide. Authorities identified the woman as 23-year-old Wylil Alexander, of Clarksville. Clarksville Police say the incident occurred after a scheduled meeting arranged between Alexander and two individuals. After a brief interaction, Alexander attempted to flee the scene and was shot. The investigation is ongoing.
