The Great Tennessee Air Show returns to Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport on June 10 and June 11 with the first female pilot of a Navy Blue Angels fighter jet joining the event.  Navy Lt. Amanda Lee joined the six-person Blue Angels fighter jet demonstration squad in September of 2022, and has more than 1,400 hours and more than 225 carrier landings since then.

The Middle Tennessee State University Board of Trustees will consider a proposal to increase undergraduate in-state tuition and mandatory fees at its next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 20. The proposed tuition increase would be $102 per student per semester (to $3,954 from $3,852). The university projects an annual revenue increase of $3.75 million from the increase.

Tennessee State Representative Bill Beck has died.  Beck studied at the Nashville School Law and was first elected to the Tennessee House in 2014.  He leaves behind a wife and a daughter, according to his profile on the General Assembly web page.  House Speaker Cameron Sexton called Beck a dedicated servant and a powerful voice for the city of Nashville in a post on social media yesterday.  The Nashville Democrat’s colleagues announced he passed away suddenly from a heart attack yesterday.   Bill Beck was 61. 

Police in Smyrna say a man and woman accused of holding a victim captive and beating him are now in custody.  Timothy Wayne Rainey and Amanda Dawn Jackson are facing charges related to robbery and kidnapping.  The victim told police he was held against his will by the suspects before they took off in his vehicle Saturday morning.  He was taken to an area hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

Brace yourself for bad news about the color pink.  Director Greta Gerwig of the upcoming movie “Barbie” said to create the world of Barbieland, set designers needed so much pink paint they caused an international shortage.   So movie goers can see the entire world’s supply of pink when the film opens July 21st…
