The family of Chase Stafford is hoping support from local community members will help them lay her to rest. The body of the 25-year-old woman was recovered from the Cumberland River near the Cheatham County Dam last week after days of searching by authorities. Investigators are still looking into Stafford’s disappearance and death. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family cover funeral service and burial expenses.
Authorities are urging Middle Tennessee residents and visitors to take precautions on the water as part of National Safe Boating Week. The event kicked off over the weekend and serves as the launch of the Safe Boating Campaign each year. Officials say having and using U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets is one of the most important and effective ways to avoid boating fatalities. This year’s Memorial Day celebration in Cheatham County will be held at the Cheatham County Veteran’s Memorial Park next Monday. The local VFW chapter says the event will start at 11 a.m. and is expected to last about one hour. Local dignitaries and a guest speaker will be in attendance, and the event is sponsored by local Veteran groups: Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1129 and local Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6181..
The City of Clarksville has broken ground on two solar farms totaling 6.75 megawatts of clean, renewable energy. The two solar farms, one on Rossville Road and the other on Wedgewood Drive, will generate enough reliable, low-cost energy to help serve more than 1,000 households annually. Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts said Clarksville is finding itself at the beginning of a new frontier with projects such as the solar farm.
Hundreds of thousands of waffle makers are under recall because of possible burn risks. Empower Brands is recalling more than 450-thousand of its PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer models after nearly three dozen reports of people getting hurt. The waffle makers were sold July 2021 through October 2022 at stores including Walmart, Big Lots, Sam’s Club, Target and others.
