The governor has the power to help encourage young Tennesseans to vote.  A bill has reached the desk of Governor Bill Lee which would require high schools to notify 18-year-old students when they are eligible to vote.  It was introduced by Democratic Representative Sam Mackenzie and it passed through the House and the Senate in Nashville, both of which are controlled by Republicans.

Tennessee is being ranked among the unhealthiest states in the country.  That’s according to a recent study conducted by pharmaceutical intelligence company OZMOSI which was based on CDC data.  The Volunteer State was ranked in 43rd in the study which used metrics like air quality, behavioral habits and obesity to reach its findings.  Kentucky was ranked last and Hawaii was ranked first.

Authorities in Cheatham County are expanding their search for a missing woman.  Multiple agencies joined the county sheriff’s office as deputies worked to locate 25-year-old Chase Stafford yesterday.  Lieutenant Shannon Heflin says Stafford was last seen by her boyfriend on May tenth when she voluntarily got out of a vehicle on Chapmansboro Road.  A backpack containing clothing, her cell phone, and her glasses was found on Highway 49 on the day she was last seen.

Investigators are still searching for suspects in connection with a deadly shooting on I-24 this past Christmas Day.  A 15-thousand-dollar reward is now offered for information that leads to the capture of those responsible for killing Chris Spaunhorst.  Authorities say someone opened fire on Spaunhorst from a black Kia Optima as he was driving along the freeway near East Nashville around noon.  Anyone who has new details related to the case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.

Taxpayers could soon be able to file their taxes digitally and free of charge directly with the IRS.  Reports say the agency has been quietly developing its own prototype system that could disrupt the tax prep market.  The Inflation Reduction Act set aside 15-million dollars to create a free and direct filing program.
