The Clarksville Police Department is searching for a van involved in a hit-and-run crash with two bicycle riders last week. The crash happened in the seven-hundred block of Rossview Road around 10:30 p.m. last Wednesday, May third. Authorities say both riders were on one bike when they were struck from behind, leading one of them to be hospitalized overnight. Investigators are describing the vehicle as a gray or silver full-size GMC, Chevy, or Nissan van. Anyone with information or possible video footage is asked to contact the Clarksville Police Department.
Demonstrators are continuing a push for gun reforms in the State of Tennessee. A group of protestors marched to House Speaker Cameron Sexton’s office following a rally at legislative plaza yesterday. Representative Justin Jones was leading the group as they delivered a copy of a gun bill that he is sponsoring. Sexton’s assistants say he was not in his office at the time.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation is increasing safety measures for the I-65 widening project work zone to reduce the number of traffic crashes. Last month, a Portland man was killed in a crash in the construction zone near Exit 112. They’ll be reducing speed limits, putting up more warning signs and increasing patrols.
Governor Bill Lee has signed a law that will increase school safety. He’d been calling for reform following the deadly Covenant School shooting. The new measures include 230-million-dollars to address several issues across the state. Money will be divided to place a full-time, armed school resource officer at every public school, have additional behavioral health professionals and provide more than 100 Homeland Security agents in schools. In addition, there will be school security upgrades at both public and private schools.
We now know the Titans opponent when they play overseas this season. Tennessee will be taking on the Baltimore Ravens in London. Sunday, October 15th.
