Most Tennesseans want stronger background checks for gun buying.  The results of the recent Vanderbilt Poll found 82-percent of more than a thousand respondents supported the idea.  Following the recent deadly Covenant School shooting in Nashville, Governor Lee suggested an order of protection law which would temporarily restrict gun access to those deemed at risk of harming themselves or others.  Legislators are yet to pass such a law.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into a string of fake school threats in Clarksville and other cities across the state.  False reports of things like active shooters, threats and injured students were made yesterday involving at least eight different schools.  Various agencies are involved in the investigation.

Crime is reportedly rising on college campuses across Tennessee.  That’s according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s annual report which says on-campus crimes increased by over 26 percent from 2021 to 2022.  Theft went up over 20 percent and assaults also increased across the same time frame.  The full report can be found online at TN-dot-gov.

Two Fort Campbell parents are facing aggravated child neglect charges following an investigation into their baby’s severe injuries.  Federal authorities began looking into Andrew Garasich and Lyndsey Bustamante in January after the child was taken to a Houston County hospital with a skull fracture and other serious medical issues.  Investigators say the baby was flown to Monroe Carell Junior Children’s Hospital for treatment of life-threatening conditions.  Both suspects face a minimum of 15 years in prison if found guilty.

CEO pay in the U.S. is on the rise.  The median pay for the 100 highest-paid CEOs rose seven-point-seven percent last year to 22-point-three-million dollars, according to a study from research company Equilar.  This, while workers’ pay failed to keep up with inflation.  Much of the CEO pay increase was thanks to huge stock awards.
