Students in Hendersonville are asking for gun reform.  Main Street yesterday had students and parents protesting with signs to demand action and gun control from lawmakers.  It comes just weeks after the most recent school shooting in the Volunteer State at the Covenant School in Nashville on March 27th which claimed the lives of six victims.

A criminal trial is once again delayed for a Sumner County man accused of killing eight people.  Jury selection for the trial of Michael Cummins was scheduled for tomorrow but a judge has confirmed that the proceedings are postponed.  Investigators say Cummins went on a brutal murder spree in Westmoreland in April of 2019, killing people at multiple crime scenes, including his parents and a 12-year-old girl.  Previous trial dates have been rescheduled as mental health evaluations were conducted for Cummins.  A new date has not yet been set.

Tennessee residents can help in the fight against breast cancer by purchasing a new license plate.  State Department of Health officials say funds generated through the sale of the “Driving to a Cure” plates help uninsured and underinsured women have access to breast and cervical cancer screenings and diagnostics.  The specialty plates raised around one-hundred-45-thousand dollars to assist women last year.  State residents can request the new design at any Tennessee County Clerk’s office.

Pet owners have another reason to celebrate their favorite animal companions.  April 11th marks National Pet Day across the U.S.  Pet owners are encouraged to give their cats extra catnip, their dogs extra treats and spending some bonding time with their bunnies.
