One person is hospitalized following a crash in Clarksville just before 9 p.m. Thursday. Police say the crash at Fort Campbell Boulevard at Eva Drive involved a car and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and his status is unknown at this time.
Middle Tennessee are gearing up for what could be some severe weather. The National Weather Service says strong thunderstorms will move into the area Friday night bringing heavy rain and possibly damaging winds. Wind gusts could get up to 45-miles-an-hour. There’s a chance for tornadoes as well. Temperatures will remain mild and forecasters say the storms should move out of the area by Saturday afternoon.
A bill to make Juneteenth an official holiday in Tennessee has passed the State Senate. Currently, June 19 is a “day of special observance,” but this legislation makes it a legal, paid holiday in the state. Governor Lee was in support of a similar bill last year but it never made it to his desk. Metro Nashville already recognizes Juneteenth as a paid holiday and it was recognized as a federal holiday in 2021.
Wilson County officials are filing a lawsuit against Global Vision Bible Church in Mount Juliet. The litigation claims church planners have been in violation of building and stormwater codes since 2019. County representatives also note that nearby neighbors have made frequent noise complaints, as the church currently operates in a tent. Leaders with the organization have not released any public comments on the lawsuit.
A Tennessee lawmaker wants teachers to be able to carry handguns on campus. Republican State Senator Paul Bailey has filed a bill that would not only allow school faculty and staff to possess concealed handguns, but also require all of them to have a valid handgun carry permit. The bill says school employees that want to carry on campus would need authorization from the chief of an appropriate law enforcement agency and complete 40 hours of training. It will be discussed by a Senate Committee next week.
