More guns could be allowed on Tennessee’s school campuses soon. A new bill was introduced this week in Nashville to change certain wording in state law to allow any adult who is legally permitted to carry a firearm in Tennessee to bring a gun onto school property or to public parks. It was introduced by Republican Joey Hensley whose office says the bill is going to be revised.
The search is still on for a missing Clarksville man. The city’s police department has asked for the public’s help in finding 50-year-old Michael Wellington who has not been heard from or seen since January 21st. He was last seen on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard leaving his workplace. Wellington may be driving a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Tennessee tag. Images of him have been posted online and anyone with information on his whereabouts should call the police as soon as possible.
Most animal fighting could become a felony in Tennessee. That’s after a new bill was introduced in the state legislature that would classify most animal fights as a Class E felony instead of a Class A misdemeanor. It would become a felony for people to own animals for the explicit purpose of fighting or for anyone to get animals to fight for sport, amusement or personal gain. It would go into effect in July, if passed.
A Hermitage business is damaged following a Wednesday afternoon fire. Crews responded to Cook’s Plant Nursery on Lebanon Pike around 1:15 p.m. NFD officials say flames in the building’s attic left the roof unstable and spread to other areas of the structure. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the blaze.
