The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Associations [[ TSSAA ]] rules that high school athletes can be paid for their name, image and likeness [[ NIL ]].  The Athletic Association approved the NIL rights with a unanimous vote at a meeting in Murfreesboro today.  This clears the way for young athletes to be paid for endorsements and sponsorships as long as their school is not identified.  They can’t appear in uniform or with any logo or name identifying the school.

Private schools in Tennessee could see millions of dollars. A report by non-profit Chalkbeat says the state has 60-million-dollars in leftover funding from the American Rescue Plan Act. Some lawmakers are reportedly looking at giving private schools a chance to use the money. Public schools across the state used ARPA funds from a separate pool of money.

The Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association (TRPA) presented Springfield Parks Director Terry Martin with a four-star award for excellence in parks and recreation under the category of new facility projects under $500,000. The projects the award recognized was Springfield’s recent construction of two sand volleyball courts and an outdoor basketball court at J. Travis Price Park.

Clarksville’s Gateway Chamber Orchestra’s Holiday tradition of the Nutcracker returns for its 3rd year with an orchestra and jazz band.  Performances are tomorrow night at 7:30 and Sunday afternoon at   3:00 at George & Sharon Mabry Concert Hall.

​Hospitals across the country are being overwhelmed by cases of COVID, flu and RSV.  New numbers from the CDC show flu hospitalizations and deaths are on the rise, with almost 80-percent of adult hospital beds full.  The White House is holding a virtual town hall at 11:45 A.M. Friday on the importance of updated COVID vaccines during the holidays.
