The Boo Bash Dash 5K and one-mile Fun Run is thus Saturday at the Robertson County Fairgrounds. As one of their main fundraising events each year, the local CASA program puts on the Boo Bash Dash to highlight their work in the community and the needs of the children they care for. With its more than 70,000 volunteers nationwide, CASA works with children who have been deemed abused or neglected and advocates for their best interests in the court system and other settings. Check-in and registration will for this year’s race is Saturday morning at 8 a.m., with the 5K set to start at 9 a.m., followed by the Fun Run at 9:10.
My Father’s House, a cold weather shelter in Springfield, will open its doors next month on Nov. 1 at a brand-new location on 10th Avenue East in Springfield, immediately behind Southside Drug Store. Starting on Nov. 1, the shelter will be open for seven days a week from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. Volunteers will be needed to help guests check in each day when they arrive. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is projecting a continued drought for parts of Tennessee this winter. The organization’s winter outlook indicates the state’s current abnormally dry conditions are likely to continue. NOAA points to the La Nina climate pattern for the weather shifts in the United States.
