The City of Springfield’s fall curbside household junk collection will continue until Oct. 31. It’s for larger items that cannot be disposed of in household trash such as mattresses and furniture. Loose and smaller items must be bagged for collection. Hazardous waste, construction materials, tires, and home improvement materials are not collected. The service is provided in addition to residents’ household and brush collection.
Governor Lee has launched a 100-million-dollar violent crime intervention fund that he says will help keep Tennesseans safe. The governor says the money will be used for hiring and training crime units, getting new equipment, upgrading existing technology and more. Law enforcement agencies across the state have until the end of the year to apply for grant money.
Leaders in Montgomery County are asking state lawmakers to help fund a new juvenile justice center. The county commission entered a formal request with General Assembly representatives yesterday. Mayor Wes Golden says the county’s lack of beds for underage offenders means they often have to be transported to facilities in other parts of the state, or just sent home. A planning study found the number of children in custody in the county increased by 12 percent between 2017 and 2021.
A weekend road trip advisory: The Gaylord Opryland resort and Convention center is bringing back a popular attraction for this year’s A Country Christmas celebration. ICE! is returning November eleventh. Artisans will use more than two-million pounds of colored and clear ice to depict scenes from the classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Christmas special. They will also create two slides, tunnels, and archways, all carved out of ice.
