Tennessee is the third worst state in the country for violent crime.  That’s according to new data from the FBI which ranks states by crimes like murders, robberies and assaults committed per 100-thousand people.  Only Alaska and New Mexico are above Tennessee on the list.  Bordering states Arkansas and Missouri are fourth and sixth respectively.  Tennessee’s violent crime rate is at 673 incidents per 100-thousand people.

Surveillance video has been released following a fire at the new Sumner County Courthouse. It happened in August and the TBI says the video shows two people in the area right before the fire started. The two look to be walking from a black Ford Mustang toward the building and then running back from the building as emergency crews were getting to the scene. Anyone with information should call authorities. The new courthouse was expected to open next year but now delays are likely.

Efforts to bring a charter school to Robertson County may be gaining momentum once again, thanks in part to a new state-appointed commission.  Led by former Robertson County Commissioner Raymond Francis, a group of local residents has been trying to open a new charter school in Springfield for years, despite several applications being rejected by the school board.  Francis says they are currently looking at working with Hillsdale College in bringing an American Classical Education charter school to Springfield but are also considering other options. He stated the group’s motivations are to provide better school choices to students.
