State Senator Kerry Roberts is announcing a one-hundred-mile bike ride to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Humphreys County flooding. The senator is riding from the Robertson County Courthouse to the Humphreys County Courthouse tomorrow to present a ten-thousand-dollar check to the United Way. Roberts will also attend memorial services for those lost in the flooding. Planned on Sunday, the services are at Waverly Church of Christ at 10:00 a.m., and at Waverly Central High School at 6:00 p.m.
State officials say COVID-19 cases among school-aged children are on the rise. The Tennessee Department of Education reported more than 51-hundred cases in young people between the ages of five and 18 over a two-week period ending on August eleventh. That is up more than 17-hundred cases from the previous report. As a whole, the State of Tennessee is ranked fifth-highest in the nation for total COVID cases per one-hundred-thousand people.
The Robertson County Historical Society is gearing up for “The Last Days of Frank & Jesse James Festival” Aug. 27th. An old, Wild West bank robbery reenactment on the Springfield courthouse square is the highlight of the event. The festival, which is in its second year, celebrates the 36th Anniversary of the 1986 film, The Last Days of Frank & Jesse James, in which several scenes were “filmed in and around the Robertson County Courthouse and Orlinda.
Robertson County competitive runners need to know that registration is now open for this year’s Titan’s Foundation 5k. The race is planned at Nissan Stadium on September third. The organization says team alumni and current personalities will be in attendance for the fundraiser. Participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and a ticket to the December eleventh home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
