Primary Election day is over and done with in Tennessee as voters hit the polls Thursday to pick candidates for the November midterms. One race that garnered national attention was in a newly re-drawn Congressional district where the incumbent Democrat chose not to run for re-election, making it a race between nine Republicans. Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles came out on top, clearing the way for him to face Democrat Heidi Campbell in November.
Two people are dead after a car crash in Robertson County Wednesday night. The Tennessee Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 10:00p.m. on Union Hill Road when a 1967 Chevy Camaro hit a tree. Officials say 52-year-old Robert Moss of Memphis and 52-year-old Hugo Milkes of White House were pronounced dead. A 19-year-old was injured in the crash and the investigation continues.
The Cross Plains police and fire departments will be hosting their first-ever Community Safety Day on Saturday, August 20th from 10 am to 2 pm at Kilgore Park. Fire crew will teach kids about bicycle safety, fire extinguisher safety and weather safety. A Williamson County Schools student is leading a lawsuit against the district and the Tennessee Department of Education. The litigation stems from the state’s School Facilities Law that requires students to use restrooms consistent with the gender they were assigned at birth. Williamson County Schools Superintendent Jason Golden and Education Commissioner Doctor Penny Schwinn are named as defendants. The suit is based on Title Nine, and argues that the school system is not providing equal protection regardless of gender.
The American Red Cross is again partnering with the Nashville Predators for a blood drive this month. Individuals who donate between August 15th and 19th will receive two preseason home game tickets and a foam hockey puck, while supplies last.
