The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s 2021 Crime In Tennessee report is now available. The analysis provides crime statistics gathered from incident reports from law enforcement agencies around the state. The data show more than five-hundred thousand serious offenses were recorded in 2021 which is down one-point-three-eight percent from 2020. Leaders with Clarksville schools are still looking to fill one-hundred-40 open teacher positions. The district says around half the vacancies are at elementary and middle schools, 30 percent in high schools, and the rest specialty positions. Another one-hundred support staff jobs are empty, and the district is short around 80 bus drivers. The first full day of classes for students is scheduled for August eleventh.
A heat advisory is in effect for Middle Tennessee today. The warning runs until 7:00 p.m. Meteorologists say temperatures in the 90’s combined with high humidity could result in heat indexes nearing one-hundred-ten. Experts urge area residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and check in on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly.
A third Middle Tennessee school district is voting to reject a controversial charter school. Clarksville-Montgomery County board members denied an application from American Classical Academy at a meeting last night. The charter academy is affiliated with Hillsdale College, and has been rejected by school boards in Rutherford and Madison counties. Governor Bill Lee has spoken in favor of Hillsdale, calling their education focus “informed patriotism”. Those critical of the school count it as a biased, right-wing program.
Greenbrier Police are continuing an investigation after a robbery that occurred on Friday July 8 at the Greenbrier Guns and Leather store. Store employees have been working with the local ATF to do a complete inventory of the store and determine exactly how many guns were stolen. It’s estimated the thieves were able to grab eight to 10 guns in the less than one minute they were inside. So far , none of the stolen guns have been found, but Greenbrier Police said there is no active threat to the public.
