Early voting for the August primaries starts on July 15th.   The primaries are to select party candidates for Governor, U.S. House of Representatives, the state house and the state senate (from odd numbered districts) and party committeemen and committeewomen.  Early voting ends July 30th and the primary elections are held on August 4th.  General elections are in November.

A Madison shopping center is damaged after a Tuesday night blaze.  Fire crews responded to the property in the 39-hundred block of Dickerson Pike around 9:00 p.m.  Officials reported heavy smoke when arriving on the scene.  Able Helpers Homecare of Nashville and Soul Food Kitchen are two tenants of the commercial building.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is partnering with a local security consulting company to offer information on how to survive an active shooter.  Hundreds of people gathered at Lipscomb University yesterday for the course, led by Brink Fidler of Defend Systems.  Fidler recommended a number of strategies to defend against an attacker, and even noted how a fire extinguisher could be used to limit a shooter’s vision, and fight back with, if need be.  He also stressed the importance of being aware of exits when entering an unfamiliar space.

The General Jethro Sumner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution announced the winner of the DAR Good Citizen Award Program. The program is intended to recognize and reward the qualities of good citizenship in local public Sumner County High Schools.  The 2022 winner is Keelin Murrell from White House High School. A senior at White House High School, Keelin studied AP and Honors Courses. She plans to attend Western Kentucky University to study Music Education through the Mahurin Honors College. A participant of choir she was accepted into the Mid-State and All-State Honors Choir for the state of Tennessee. She was awarded a Citizenship Award twice in middle school. Keelin is actively involved in her church and helps lead worship every Sunday morning.
