Tennessee Department of Transportation officials say road crews won’t be working on highway projects over Memorial Day weekend. Construction work including lane closures will be suspended on state roads and interstates around Tennessee starting at noon this Friday through 6:00-a.m. next Tuesday. The Triple-A predicts nearly seven-hundred thousand Tennesseans will take to the highways over the holiday weekend this year.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting a driver license roadside safety checkpoint on May 27th, on US Highway 31W at Red River Bridge in Sumner and Robertson counties. The checkpoint will operate from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. andill concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by drivers who violate the driver license laws.
Smithfield Meats is recalling over one-hundred-85-thousand pounds of pre-cooked bacon topping. The company says the packages could contain pieces of metal. Five-pound bags of the product were sold under the Smithfield, Golden Crisp, and Member’s Mark brand names. No injuries have been reported.
The City of Springfield’s Freedom Fest, presented by Grace Baptist Church, will take place on Sunday, July 3rd at the Robertson County Fairgrounds. This family-friendly event is free and the fairgrounds will open at 3 p.m. with music beginning at 3:45 p.m. Seating will be available inside the arena. You’re welcome to bring chairs and blankets. The free concert will include performances by Grammy-nominated gospel band High Road, local artists, and the The Oak Ridge Boys. The evening will conclude with the city’s largest fireworks display beginning at 9:00 p.m. Free parking is available at the fairgrounds, Legion Park, and J. Travis Price Park.
